What Is Epitalon?

Epitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide — a chain of four amino acids: Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (alanine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, glycine). It is a synthetic analog of Epithalamin, a naturally occurring peptide produced by the pineal gland.

The primary mechanism studied is telomerase activation. Telomerase is the enzyme responsible for maintaining and extending telomeres — the protective caps on the ends of chromosomes that shorten with each cell division. As telomeres shorten, cells eventually reach a state called replicative senescence, where they cease dividing and begin secreting inflammatory signals (the SASP — Senescence-Associated Secretory Phenotype) that accelerate nearby tissue aging.
